Legislative Luncheon

The retired teachers from Indiana met the lobbyists Mark Sherer and Steve Beebe both who seem eager and very anxious to serve our interests, feeling we are most deserving.  The ladies interacted with legislators from several counties and thanked them for what they were doing on behalf of retired teachers to secure a COLA (cost of living adjustment) and a minimum retirement of at least $500 for some educators who only receive $350 per month.  As a gimmick to have the COLA bill stick in their minds, cans of COLA were handed to each of the representatives we met,  each can was appropriately marked with COLA and Indiana Retired Teachers need a COLA this session.
We also met Senator Jean Leising who is a firm believer in cursive writing, and is pushing for this bill to pass.  She has stats she presents of MRI studies that show a direct relationship between cursive writing and mental development—that  is right up there with art and music in brain development.
Other representatives we talked to were Don Lehe, Tom Neese, Steve Davisson, and Eric Koch plus many others.
